On January 20, 2013 around 3:30 pm in Sacramento, CA, a homeowner was forced to fatally shoot a violent intruder after he continuously threatened him and his wife with a number of blunt force objects.

The 36 year old resident was preparing to drive away from his home with his wife when the 50 year old man walked through their open gate and onto his driveway. The resident asked him to leave and the man began acting aggressive and irrationally. He finally left, but before the resident and his wife were able to get into the car and leave, he returned with a cane, started swinging it, and charged the resident, who retreated to his yard and grabbed a 2x4 to defend himself. The man with the cane started swinging it violent, breaking objects in the yard and throwing large objects at the resident, who retreated to the house and grabbed his gun and returned, ordering the man to leave. In response, the man picked up a heavy, wrought iron stand and began to cock back as if to throw it at the resident, who fired one round at the man, striking him in the abdomen.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he died eight hours later. The resident has not been charged and no one else was injured in the altercation.
