On January 9, 2013 around 11:15 pm in Houston, TX, police were called to the scene of an unusual crime in an apartment. Police say that before they arrived, a fight broke out between the man who rented the apartment and a man he was allowing to stay in the apartment temporarily, when the guest tried to choke the renter's dog. When the renter intervened to protect his dog, the guest began attacking him. Fearing for his safety, the renter pulled his gun and fired a round into his chest. The guest was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

No one else was injured in the incident and police questioned and released the renter, looking at the case as an act of self-defense, and forwarded the case to the district attorney.

Apparently, somebody had missed this odd story that came out of Florida just a few days before. The moral, apparently, is don't attack anyone's dog.
