Around midnight on January 22, 2013 in Rochester, NY two burglars broke into a residential home, armed with a BB gun and met a homeowner armed with an AR-15. The homeowner did not have to fire any shots; the two burglars immediately turned around and ran for their lives.

The Rochester Police Chief confirmed that the gun was legally owned and the homeowner was guilty of no wrongdoing. However, based on New York's new gun laws, no one else is permitted to buy this type of weapon; only existing owners may possess them and they have one year to register them with the state.

It was incorrectly reported that this was the type of weapon "used in the shooting that killed 20 first-graders and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown." As we already reported way back on January 2, there was absolutely no AR-15 used in the Sandy Hook shooting.

  1. This story needs to be sent to that idiot Piers Morgan, who doesn't believe regular citizens need such a weapon for their own protection.
