On May 4, 2009 in College Park, GA a group of college students were gathered in an apartment for a birthday party when two armed men burst into the door and held them all at gunpoint. First, they gathered up all wallets and cell phones, then they separated the men and women into two different rooms as they got ready to take turns raping the women. One gunman asked another how many rounds he had. The other replied that he had enough, implying that they planned on killing all the witnesses before they left.

But that's when one student decided that losing a cell phone and wallet was one thing, but being raped and murdered was going to far. He reached into his backpack and pulled out his own handgun, shooting at the gunman guarding the men in one room, who immediately fled the apartment. The student then went to the bedroom, where the second gunman, Carl Lavant, 23, was holding the women. He yelled for the women to get down as he opened fire on Lavant, who returned fire as he scrambled out of a window.

Lavant was found dead only one building away. One girl was injured during the shootout, but is expected to make a full recovery, which is still a much better fate than she would have had if no one had intervened. All the students were grateful for their armed friend, certain that they would be dead if it weren't for his intervention.
