On January 15, 2010 just after midnight in Palmview, TX, three armed men knocked down the front door of a home where a mother and her 11 year old son were sleeping. Going to investigate, she found two men, wearing masks and armed with handguns coming toward her. She gathered her son and ran into the bedroom, locking the door behind them as she tried to dial 911. One of the men shot through the door and struck her son in the left hip. The boy, however, was armed with a .22 caliber rifle and shot back through the door. It became quiet and the mother went to investigate and discovered that the robbers had fled, leaving a significant blood trail.

An ambulance transported the boy to a local hospital for treatment. Ironically, a man came to the same hospital shortly thereafter with a gunshot wound to the neck. He has been detained by police and will have criminal charges filed against him. Border Patrol Agents also detained two more Mexican nationals in the area that matched the description of the men involved in the crime.

Just imagine what the outcome would have been had that boy not had a rifle.
