On July 29, 2008 in Hancock, MS, 20 year old Wade Ledesma tried to break into an elderly couple's front door, back door, and rear window. Each time, the 84 year old homeowner struggled to keep the younger man out of the house. He was wrestling to try to keep the door closed when he started to lose his strength and new that he was about to lose the ability to keep the much younger man out of his home and police still had not arrived yet. He told his wife to bring him his handgun. He fired one shot through the lower panel of the door, meant to be a warning shot, but it struck Ledesma in the leg.

Ledesma was transported to a local hospital and will be charged. No one else was injured in the shooting and the homeowner will not be charged.
