On January, 16, 2013 in Redwood City, CA, three men, Raymond Lewis, 27, armed with a handgun, Rodney Lavince Mitchell, 21, armed with a hammer, and Robert Wheller Jr., 25, armed with a club, walked into a jewelry store. Bradford pointed his handgun at the clerks and demanded money.

One of the clerks, however, was armed as well, and pulled out his handgun, cocking the slide back and loading a round. The unmistakable sound immediately prompted all three to bolt from the store to their waiting getaway car. The jewelry store employees also jumped into a car as they called 911 and reported the attempted robbery, the license plate number and description of the vehicle, and the vehicle's location as they followed the robbers until a sheriff's deputy was able to take over pursuit.

Their car ended up crashing shortly thereafter and the men took fled on foot. The police eventually caught all three.
