What other tool for self-defense will give someone an advantage after being outnumbered three to one and not knowing the time that one will be attacked?

On January 13, 2013 around 5:40 pm in Montgomery, AL, three men, Orlando Bowen, 17, Keyon Butler, 19, and Deandre Robertson, 20, broke into a residential home, armed with handguns, with the intent to burglarize it. Instead, they encountered an armed homeowner, who shot Robertson and called police. While the other two burglars immediately fled, police arrived to find Robertson dead at the scene.

After additional investigation, police apprehended his two accomplices. Since they are suspects in a crime during which their accomplice died, they are also being charged with felony murder on top of their first degree robbery charges.

No one else was injured in the altercation and the homeowner will not be charged, since he was acting in self-defense.
