On January 27, 2013 around 6:30 pm in Huntsville, AL, Jacob Smith White, 21, was trying to meet a man who had responded to a Craigslist ad that he had posted for a television. The man changed the location several times as White drove to meet him. They finally met on Padgett Drive NW and while inspecting the TV, the man asked White to check behind it to see if the resolution was listed. As White started to look behind, he noticed the man, now robber, pulling a pistol out of his pocket. White ran towards his car where his legally permitted pistol was stored as the robber shot at him, but missed. White drew his own gun and fired back, causing the robber to flee. White left the scene and called police to report the incident.
Not long afterwards, a man came to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest matching the description of the man White reported. The investigation is ongoing, White will not be charged, and no one else was injured in the altercation.
