I guess the moral of the story is don't bite the hand that feeds you? Or, gives you range time? After the Burlington City Council advanced a measure to ban semi-automatic rifles and "large capacity" magazines, a local gun range where the Burlington Police Department trains has banned the department from formally using its facility for their training. The Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club claims that it is difficult for the club to support the city if the city is not supporting the club.

One of the issues involved with having municipal gun control laws, besides restricting the constitutional freedoms of the residents of that city, is that it makes it more difficult for legal gun owners to remain legal gun owners as they travel. If a Vermont resident who lives outside Burlington is legally permitted and allowed to own and carry a particular weapon, it is possible, especially if hundreds of different municipalities adopt hundreds of different laws, for a legal gun owner to break laws as he travels through different towns just to get to his favorite range or hunting spot. It is one thing to research the laws of the states that one is travelling through to ensure that one is in compliance with the law, but when ignorance of the law is not a valid defense for breaking it, it is completely unreasonable to be aware of and comply with the different laws of the hundreds of towns that a person could travel through in sort periods of time.
