On January 23, 2013 around 6 pm in Garfield, PA, a masked burglar, 27 year old Michael Andrews, knocked on the door of a home. When the door partially opened, Andrews began forcing his way in, shooting through the door several times and striking two teenagers on the other side of the door. One of those teens was able to grab a gun from inside the house and shoot back at Andrews, striking him in the head and chest, forcing him to retreat outside the house where he collapsed on the sidewalk and died. The wounded teenagers immediately fled the house in order to seek medical attention and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Without an accessible gun in that home, instead of one firearm homicide where the intruder died, it would have been two firearm homicides where the victims died. That might be ok to gun control advocates who believe that being unarmed and unable to protect yourself is morally superior to being self-reliant, but it's not ok for the rest of the rational population.
