Woman Awakes to Burglar Shooting Inside Her House; She Fires Back and Forces Him to Flee

On January 22, 2013 in Indianapolis, IN, a gunman forced himself into a residential home and shot one of the three occupants inside. A woman, who was asleep at the time, awoke to the sound, grabbed her handgun out of her purse, and fired several shots at the gunman, who immediately ran away as soon as he was met with force.

It is unknown whether she hit the gunman, but no one else was injured in the incident.

Given the willingness for the burglar to shoot one of his victims so easily, even before he knew one of the victims was armed, this could have easily been three murders and a burglary; instead it's one injury and a failed burglary, all thanks to a responsible citizen with a gun.
