On January 15, 2013 just before 2 am in San Antonio, TX a homeowner heard someone breaking into his SUV parked in front of his house. He went to investigate and found a man inside his vehicle. As he approached the vehicle, he saw the man inside start to turn towards him and he thought he saw a gun. The homeowner fired at the burglar, hitting him in the upper torso. As that happened, the getaway car driver (apparently with no loyalty to his partner in crime) tried to speed off past the homeowner, who fired through the windshield, which killed the driver.

Police report that the man had to fire 13 shots in all to defend himself. If he was in NY after the recent gun control bill started to be enforced, he would have only had 7 rounds with which to defend himself.

The wounded burglar was taken to SAMM-C in critical condition. Police say that the owner is unlikely to face any charges since he was defending his property.
