The President Wants to Hear from the Victims of Gun Violence; What About Those Who Have Used Them in Self-Defense?

Keepers of Reason, I have a mission for you. The President of the United States is soliciting stories from victims of gun violence so that he can abuse his influence and spotlight the same lopsided portrayal of firearms that the main stream media has been doing for decades. He does not want to hear stories about responsible citizens saving themselves and especially others through gun ownership, but that’s exactly what he and others should hear about if we want to make decisions about our future without them being riddled with logical fallacies.

So here is my challenge to you: go to http://www.barackobama.com/stories/share-your-story and fill out the form. Be sure to select “Gun Violence” as your topic. Then go to http://www.rationalityrebooted.com and browse for your favorite story. Maybe it’s one of our many stories about people using an AR-15 in self defense or one of our recent stories about the elderly man who shot a much younger man trying to rape and beat up and 23 year old pregnant mother (links to some of the more popular stories are below). When you’re done, like and share this link so that others can do the same thing. With enough help, maybe we can open up the President’s eyes to the fact that guns are used legally and defensively many more times than they are used illegally and offensively, but the legal use of guns is typically much more boring than when they’re used illegally and thus unlikely to illicit the same response from the media.
