Around 1:24 am on February 15, 2013, Demetrius Murphy, 15, and Michael Bryant III, 17, were trying to break into a home in St. Louis, MO. There were two homeowners present at the time, a 33 year old man and a 28 year old woman. The man and the woman were startled by noises and the man went outside to investigate and caught the two trying to break in. When Murphy began approaching the homeowner, the homeowner shot him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and his accomplice was caught by police. Since his accomplice died in the commission of the same crime, Missouri law allows the district attorney to charge Bryant with murder, in addition to attempted burglary.
