On Saturday morning, January 26, 2013, Jerome McCorry organized a protest outside the Bill Goodman's Gun and Knife Show in Miami Valley, OH. That is not unusual nowadays to have gun control advocates protest outside gun shows.

He told local media, who replayed his comments on the nightly news, that "We know that guns are being sold on the floor inside Hara Arena illegally. No background checks, no identification of any kind. [...] AK-47s and M16s are not gonna be used for hunting, they're not going to be used to protect anybody. These are the weapons that are coming back and being used in mass murders and mass killings." That is not unusual, either, to hear from a gun-control advocate nowadays. Of course, all of that information is patently false. AK-47s, which can fire in fully automatic, are already illegal and not permitted to be sold to the general public, nor are M16s sold to the general public either. Additionally, we've already demonstrated that despite how scary looking AR-15s are (I think that might be what he meant to talk about), they are actually used in such a lowly fraction of crimes that the notion that banning them, and thus denying all of the responsible owners of them their rights, would be completely ineffective; if a mass murderer couldn't grab an AR-15, he would use another semi-automatic rifle.

What actually is disturbing about Jerome McCorry and his anti-gun comments is the fact that he is a convicted rapist. Think about that for a second. A convicted rapist would prefer that you don't have the means to defend yourself. Anyone who has ever passed Psych 101 will tell you that rape isn't about sex to the rapist; it's about control. Someone who gets off on controlling other people, someone who is aroused at the idea of a helpless victim who has no choice but to bend to the will of her attacker would like to advocate for more laws to try to control the behavior and choices of millions of law-abiding citizens across the country. You should be skeptical of anything criminals and politicians want to force on you.

Of course, what's even more disturbing is that not a single news outlet that covered this story, from the Dayton Daily News link that I embedded at the top of the page, to all the others you can search for, actually admitted that their big anti-gun advocate was a convicted rapist. I think that's probably an important fact to present to viewers so they can judge his credibility, especially if the news outlet is not going to try to correct the notion that AK-47s and M16s are being sold inside either.
