On January 29, 2013 around 2 am in Port Angeles, WA, a homeowner confronted a home intruder who had already tried to break into the same house on two previous occasions with a shotgun and held him for police. Clint Lowery, who lives in the home with his fiance, their 2 year old daughter, brother, and sister-in-law, had called the police twice in the past day reporting an unknown man trying to break into his home. Police never arrived in time to catch him and they could not find somebody matching his description around the neighborhood.

When the man returned in the middle of the night, Lowery was ready and confronted him at the front door with a 12 gauge shotgun, causing the home invader to immediately surrender and wait for police to arrive. The man, identified by police as Richard Allen Smith, 37, was arrested for two counts of residential burglary, but officers have not been able to ascertain why he came back to the same house.

In case you missed it from the headline, this is the story of a responsible gun owner protecting himself, his family, and his property and doing it without having to pull the trigger.
