On the afternoon of January 31, 2013 in Atlanta, GA, a teenager at Price Middle School opened fire in a courtyard of the school with a handgun. It is unclear how the boy got a gun past the metal detectors at the school entrance. One 14 year old boy was wounded in the neck before an armed School Resource Officer peacefully disarmed the shooter and detained him for police to take him into custody.

The boy who was injured was taken to a local hospital with very minor injuries and was expected to be released that same day. The School Resource Officer was able to disarm the shooter without firing a shot. This will get classified as a prevented potential massacre, since it happened in a location with hundreds of unarmed victims against an armed shooter; there's no way to actually know what a desperate teenager who thought it was a good idea to settle an argument with gunfire would do when he tried to escape from a locked down school.
