Around 8:30 pm on February 22, 2013 in Lakeland, FL, police responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired. When they arrived at the scene, they found Lawrence Carlberg, Jr., 43, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he died. He had been shot by Lawrence Carlberg, Sr., 65, who was wheelchair bound and had allowed his son to move back into his home recently.

Carlberg Jr had been in an argument with his father when he lost control, lunging at him. Carlberg Sr fired a single round, striking him once in the chest.

No one else was injured by any gunfire. After reviewing the evidence, the State Attorney General's Office will not be pressing any charges.

It's sad when a family member has to defend himself from another family member, but that doesn't mean hearing about a son strangling his elderly, wheelchair bound father to death this morning would have been any better news than this story.
