Mother Shoots Man Who Was Assaulting and Robbing Her Son

On December 28, 2011 around 9:00 PM in Philadelphia, PA, a mother shot and killed the man who had just shot her son and was in the process of robbing him. The incident occurred in the laundry room of an apartment complex. Moments before, her 23 year old son was with his girlfriend doing laundry when a 19 year old man entered the room, pistol whipped him, and then shot him in the leg. Hearing the gunshot, his mother secured her legally permitted handgun and ran to help. She encountered the 19 year old man, standing over her son, with a gun still in his hand, and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed.

That's one firearm homicide in the statistics book, but it could have replaced at least two.
