On December 16, 2012 around 7 am, Deyon Durham, 24, attempted to break into a residence in Henderson, NC, but ended up encountering an armed homeowner, who shot him, killing him at the scene.

Durham served two years in prison starting in 2007 for sexual battery and indecent liberties; a rape charge alleging he molested an elementary-aged child was dropped in that case. He was arrested in three separate instances for felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny, breaking and entering into a motor vehicle with burglary tools, and failing to appear. He was also arrested and served time for possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia and charges of breaking and entering and trespassing.

Clearly, some gun-owning homeowner has saved the American people a significant amount of money in legal and prison expenses and his neighbors a significant amount of trouble trying to eventually recover their property.
