Never bring a knife to a gun fight.

On April 26, 2012 in Salt Lake City, UT, a man purchased a knife inside of a grocery store before standing in the entrance and using it to start stabbing people. He was able to stab two people, one in the stomach and one in the head, while slashing at their arms as they threw them up in protection. Before he was able to inflict a fatal wound or find another victim, however, a man with a concealed handgun pulled it out and ordered the stabber to drop his knife. He complied and the man with the gun guarded him until police arrived to arrest him.

Police were quick to praise him, saying, "This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. [...] He was definitely in the right place at the right time." Other shoppers and employees were also very grateful.

Of the dozens of customers in that store, it only took one with a concealed handgun to protect them all. The freeloader effect when it comes to concealed handguns is substantial.
