On June 19, 2012 in Tacoma, WA, a man was home alone when he heard knocking on his back door. Not expecting company, he ignored the knocking. Suddenly, he heard glass breaking as a burglar breaks a bay window and starts to crawl in the window. The homeowner secured a shotgun and moved to the point of entry. The homeowner fired one shot, striking the burglar, Christopher Rhodes, 20, in the face, causing him to immediately retreat. He collapsed in the driveway of a nearby house while asking the occupants for assistance and to hide him. An application was found on his phone that relayed police broadcasts.
