On December 11, 2012 at around 11 am in Bakersfield, CA, Arturo Jose Luis Estrada, 26, removed a screen and broke into a window of a residential home while an alleged female accomplice waited in the front yard as a lookout. Once inside the home, Estrada was shot twice by the homeowner, causing him to flee immediately. He made it about a half of a block before he collapsed, where police were able to apprehend him when they finally showed up. His injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Neighbors reported that the two suspected burglars may have been casing the neighborhood for a while, knocking on front doors to see who was home and who was away.

Estrada has been charged with first degree burglary.
