On October 14, 2012 at around 9:15 PM in Santa Fe, NM, a 67 year old man rushed outside to the street after hearing a large crash to find that a man driving a red Toyota Tacoma had slammed into his Nissan sedan. The driver of the Tacoma was turning around due to a dead end and making his way back toward the crowd that was gathering near the accident. The owner of the Nissan moved into the street to stop the driver of the Tacoma. The driver of the Tacoma stopped the vehicle and exited, quickly moving toward the owner of the Nissan with a knife in his hand. He slashed across the 67 year old man's face, cutting him from cheek to ear, which prompted the victim to reach into his back pocket and pull out his Glock. Fearing for his life, he fired a single shot into the attacker's abdomen.

The odds of a 67 year old man defending himself against a 33 year old man with a knife are very slim. Without a gun to even the playing field, an innocent man could have easily died.
