On Christmas Day of this year, an employee at the Arundel County Coin Shop in Baltimore, MD shot and killed a robber who broke into the shop at 6:28 AM under the possible assumption that the shop was unoccupied. Instead, an employee, who police have not named, was there and after a struggle, managed to shoot the robber, who ran out of the store and then collapsed dead on the sidewalk.

The police had been called to the coin shop on four separate occasions over the previous two weeks due to alarms going off and possible break ins.

No charges are expected to be filed. That's the good news.

The bad news is that this will be entered into the National Crime Database as a firearm fatality, but there will be no entry for a robbery prevention or all the future robberies it prevented.
