No major media outlets would bother to carry a story about a 61 year old woman with a concealed handgun defending herself against two men, aged 27 and 33, who attempted to rob her in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Ocean Springs, MS on November 16, 2011 at around 8:30 pm. The story is even less appealing considering that no shots were even fired. As the woman was attempting to unload groceries into her car, a man ran up to her cart and tried to take her purse; she held onto it, struggling over the purse with the robber. Finally, she reached with her other hand for the small handgun that she keeps tucked inside her belt, pulled it out, and pointed it at the robber. The man immediately let go and ran away with his accomplice.

Once again, the argument that the presence of a gun always and inevitably leads to shooting and additional collateral damage doesn't hold up in this case. Additionally, the argument that an untrained citizen would not have the presence of mind to know when it's necessary to pull the trigger and when it's not also does not hold up in this case. This is an example of a woman who, without a gun, is completely vulnerable to the physical strength of two young men, but was able to responsibly use a gun as a tool to level the playing field and negate the advantage of strength that these criminals had.  Source Article
