This case actually occurred in 2006, but it has taken six years for details to finally come out. Despite (or rather, because of) what positive publicity this is for responsible gun owners, there are very few stories or articles about this incident. For those keeping track at home and like to say that ordinary citizens aren't trained with firearms and are more likely to hit everything except for what they're trying to hit in a stressful situation, this guy was five for five.

  1. this is an extremely stupid, short sighted account of what it claims to be... a Responsible gun owner!! A trained and responsible gun owner, it seems to me, would have tried a little something else first....kick the unarmed assailant in the head, call for another guy to help wrestle him off of the victim of the unarmed attack to think of a couple things. Ran to his vehicle to get his gun? How bout grabbing his tire iron to whack the guy with before resorting to shooting him in the chest perhaps. But no.... just runs for the gun, supposedly asks the man to stop beating the victim and when he doesn't, he puts 5 in the guys torso, one in his head?? Trained responsible gun owner? Why not a shot or two in his leg or arm?? at 4 feet away it would be hard to miss for a trailed shooter don't you think? As a pro gun, pro self defense guy, I think that this is a terrible example of guns being used responsibly. Terrible.

    1. For someone who claims to be pro-gun, you seem to be ignorant of how to engage a violent target, even at close range, in a hostage situation. A shot or two in the arm or leg? Have you ever seen someone shot in the arm? Even from a few feet away, if you aim for an arm, 6-8" wide, maximum, of a guy flailing around, what do you think the odds of actually hitting the arm are versus hitting the poor guy that he's assaulting? Even if you do manage to catch the edge of an arm, your ignorance of ballistics has been revealed. Even a hollow point will go through 4" of flesh and injure the person behind it.

I recommend taking a defensive shooting class; you will learn not to get physically engaged with a violent attacker when you have a firearm and strategies for maintaining your advantage with standoff. If he had "kicked him in the head" and gotten into a physical altercation with the man, both he and the police officer could have been killed. Take it from a guy who has used his pistol in combat (me) and not someone who got an education from Hollywood. He did the absolutely right thing. Ever tried to restrain someone on drugs before?

Monday morning quarterbacks are a dime a dozen. If you've never been in a stressful, life or death situation before, your opinion is worthless.
